I'm a HEAVY Outlook user but don't connect to Exchange.  I downloaded the HTC Sync software to my PC and have limited success in getting the info I need from my PC to my Inc.

The biggest issue is my contacts.  I have over 700 contacts and my Inc only gets about 150 or so of them.  Of course, it doesn't get the important ones like my wife, my employees, my manufacturing companies, etc.

Sync'ing is tough enough (have to have software open, phone can't find software etc.), but once I get everything to finally begin the Sync (usually after resetting both PC and Inc) the Sync will stop and I get the following errors:

Errors:  1 General, 507 Contacts
Error due to:  Connection to mobile phone timed out

There's no way to begin the Sync again, it seems I have to restart both devices.

I've tried tapping the screen on my Inc a few times during the process to "keep it awake", but that doesn't help either.

Any thoughts?

Well, there are 75 views and no replies.  I'm thinking that I'm not alone here, or that at the very least others are concerned about (or interested in) the same issue.

Anyone?  Bueller?  Bueller?

hey daddio...views do not necessarily mean someone is "interested" and/or is having the same issue. Some of us like to read everything so we can be aware of issues, questions, etc. if we ever do run into it. Clearly, at this point, there are not many others experiencing your situation. I know it must be frustrating. Wish we had the answers. The truth is, we just don't right now. When someone does, you will hear from them. Smiley

I'm well aware, thank you.  This thread is likely to come up if someone were to Google "HTC Sync", but regardless, 75 different people having hit this thread gives it some merit, at least in my sick little mind.

I'm experiencing the exact same problem - also a heavy Outlook user. It seems to me, that I experience the timeout each time I have too many (don't know exactly when "many" becomes "too many") calendar / contact entries to sync.

Have to reboot both phone + PC for sync to start syncing remaining items.

Have had the Droid one month.  It has managed to be recognized by the HTC Sync manager software on my PC only twice.  Please go to the HTC Droid Support area to see numerous posts with this exact problem and no consistently successful remedy. [http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/91/t/1773.aspx]

I have installed the earlier version from the SD card, uninstalled and reinstalled, the earlier and the later version, I have assured myself that I have the US version, not the European version.  Nothing works.  I have turned off AV.  Even on the rare occasions when it has connected, it selects calendar events only randomly and doesn't place calendar events from the Droid on my Outlook calendar.

This is an enormous problem.  I am not able to keep up with my calendar on this thing and that makes it nearly useless.  Does anyone know if HTC has a sense of urgency about this flaw?  Please help!

After spending about 4 hours to date with the HTC tech support people, they continually deny a problem. I beg to differ since I am finding this issue spread over all the Incredible forums. My Synch doesn't even get to the point of Synch Manager, where I should be asked what I want to synch, according to the tech guys. I have exported my contacts via csv files from Outlook but that is not a reasonable long term solution.

I have two major beefs: the HTC website section on the Incredible HTC Synch states that synching with Outlook works. It was on that basis that I bought the phone. Second: denial by the HTC tech people that there is an issue and their inability to fix it. My situation was presumably escalated to a higher level support on 7/2. On 7/15 I am told that though my record states the escalation, it never happened and I now am at the bottom of the escalation list again. Tomorrow is my drop dead date for returning the phone to Verizon so I have no option but to return it.

I am so disappointed in HTC support and HTC as a company, that I assume I will be much better off with a different company's phone.

I have been setting up my Incredible for two days and I am very disappointed in HTC. The phone does not connect reliably to the PC for syncing ... it only seems to connect about once in every ten tries (I am connecting to a Windows XP laptop). Once  connected, the sync program is very slow and it fails after syncing 300 of my 600  contacts (MS Outlook 2007). I have not found a way to make it work.

My company uses NotifyLink's Touchdown app as it's Android mail/calendar/contact client. There is a known issue with Touchdown on the Incredible. Apparently the contact sync works on other Android phones, but not the Incredible. It's curious that two different apps (HTC Sync and Touchdown) have trouble syncing contacts on the Incredible.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend the Incredible for anyone who needs to use the HTC Sync application. Unless I can find some way to make the sync work reliably, I will be returning the Incredible and going back to my BlackBerry.

I suspected others would report this same issue over time. I'm knowledgeable enough to know that there was a software issue.

I'm certainly not happy others are having the issue, but if we complain loud and often enough HTC will address this. I'm not so disappointed to switch to another device, I'm much more of an adaptive type of person than that. Coming from WM I knew there were things that this phone wouldn't do, but what it DOES do is so much more I'll put up with an occasional nuance or two. After all, no one device can do everything.

As a humorous side note, my kids are looking for a lighter for candles on a birthday cake. One daughter said "can we use your phone? I'm sure it has a lighter on it somewhere!"

I'm happy to stick with it if there is any acknowledgment on HTC's part that a problem exists and they plan to get it fixed -- quickly.  And, yes, it is clearly a software problem.  My PC recognizes the Droid, but HTC's own sync software doesn't recognize it's own device.  I am hopeful this will be an easy fix. . . but HTC has to agree that a problem exists and the set about fixing it!

According to HTC's site, they have a new HTC Sync available but it's only tested on the Wildfire... whatever that is.  They state that other phones will follow quickly.

I tried www.companionlink.com 's DejaOffice to get my contacts updated, but I'm not impressed.  Lot's of duplicates, lots of missing contacts still.  It did, however, recognize when I added/deleted contacts from the Inc to the PC and vise versa.

It's better than HTC Sync, but still needs some work.  Also, if states on the Market that it's free.  It is, for 14 days, then it's a one time fee of $39.95.  I don't think I'm going to pay it, too much DOESN'T work.  I'll wait for HTC to fix their problems as I've already manually entered the vast majority of my important contacts manually... GRRR!  Angry

Just one more bit of info, HTC's news release I mentioned above is dated July 27, 2010.  Here's the link: http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=982&news_id=737

The screen shot looks like it's going to be pretty flexible and intuitive.  Keep your fingers crossed my friends!

I also have contacted HTC concerning the failure to syn with my PC.  I am running Windows 7 and I cannot get HTC sync to work properly.  It worked the first 2 or 3 times and then it stopped working.  I unstalled the sync software and reinstalled and it worked once then stopped working again.
I feel it is time to get the word out strongly to HTC that this is a significant issue that they must address.  It is time to use the power of the internet.  I would encourage everyone whoi is having these issues to post this info on blogs, FB, youtube, etc., etc.  HTC made claims about their phone.  It is a serious legal issue to make claims about a product that are not true or accurate.  I am really sorry I bought into the Droid hype.  I am not a programmer or a techie.  If the idea is for the users to develop work-arounds, or purchase apps to do the job that HTC claims it's phone can do on its own, then HTC and Verizon should advertise the phone as such.  It appears there is still a long way to go for the Droid.

I wonder when the Euro fix will ever get to the USA.

I've just reported this problem after living with it for way too long.  It's...um, incredible that this is an issue.

I've had trouble syncing my Incredible to Outlook. My computer recognizes my HTC as an external HD, but sync software doesn’t. I called HTC tech support. I told them I think it has something to do with the OS upgrade. Verizon added a program that now vcast pops up all the time. TS gave me a way to disable vcast. It is now working. I suggest you call TS, and tell them you want to disable vcast.
