I've had my DInc reboot spontaneously twice. The last time it happened, I was downloading 3 or 4 updates to apps simultaneously.

I'm having the same problem with my Incredible rebooting. Last time I was at Verizon they said I may have too many apps running, which cause it to overheat, then reboot. I'm going to print this thread and go to Verizon tomorrow to talk to them.

I've been really busy, so I haven't been to Verizon yet. Just today my HTC heated up and reboot 4 time in a row. I had to pull the battery, but it kept on rebooting. I pulled the battery and kept it out until it cooled down. I'm always killing apps just before I start using it to surf the web or go to android market. I print this up again and show it to them to prove I'm not the only one.

Just got back from Verizon. HTC started acting up right there. It would not stop rebooting. Verizon is overnight shipping me a new phone and batery.

This crashing and rebooting problem is somwhat common to the HTC Droid Incredible 2 from what I've read.  Mine crashes 5 or more times a day, even after a hard reset was done at the Verizon store.  It happens when the battery overheats after 10 minutes of Internet/app use; or when I go to a web page with alot of photos or content; or sometimes while I'm charging it.  Occasionally it crashes and reboots when I take a photo or video.  I'm using Task Killer and kill apps after I use them. ... There's also a "reboot loop" problem - after a crash it keeps rebooting and that's only cured by removing the battery.  The Verizon tech told me that the battery shouldn't overheat, and that if I encoutner a web page with too much data it should merely force close (but not crash and reboot).  I just wanted to pass this on for those who are told "this is the first time we've heard of this."

I too am plagued with the reboot bug, and I did notice that my battery was hot when I removed it to stop the re-boot loop. I have two batteries, the original and a "longer lasting" one I bought, both are prone to this "over heating/reboot" problem. I sure would love a fix for this

Well I got my replacement Incredible Thursday. So far no problems. I have been killing apps everytime I'm about to use the phone for anything other then a phone call. Ben at the Verizon store advice me to download one app at a time and work with it for a day to see if the battery starts to heat up. I told him about "Battery Time Lite" app it gives me info about the level of my battery and the time on it if I do certain things like talk time, web time, etc. It also tells me the temp. of the battery. Which at one time reached 111 degrees. He said he never heard of an app telling you the temp of the battery. That's when he said to download one app at a time, and to read commnets before downloading. Do any of you who have this problem, using "Battery Time Lite"?

I rec'd my HTC Droid Incredible 2 in June, within 2 weeks started to have reboot issues. Called Verizon, they sent me to a store and they gave me a new battery. Called in several other times and tried many suggestions (uninstalled all apps) and finally hard reset losing all settings and configurations. Still rebooting. Called Friday and told I would get new phone. They first tried refurbished but explained this problem dates back to 30 day warranty period, they finally agreed. Should have phone by Wednesday.

Rec'd new phone, reboot problem continued. I have no apps installed, have only synced emails, facebook, twitter, etc. Verizon can't help, they offered to replace phone with another or any phone of my choice. Frustrated because i like the phone. Have looked at Droid X and Droid 2, not for me. So i called HTC to see if they were aware. Tech said she heard of it only once or twice and attributed it to frequency of synchs, as she said, too much going on at once. I do have 3 emails, facebook, twitter. So I made some adjustments. I have been up for 10:01:45. Usually I would reboot at least 4 or 5 times a day. Will continue to monitor.

Got the update this morning. was hoping and praying it would fix the re-boot problem. no such luck, after installing the update, immediately started rebooting, havent even had a chance to look at any of the new features, got stuck in the reboot cycle. Kinda getting real sick of this

I got my Dinc in June and never once regretted choosing it over the iPhone until now. Got my 2.2 update that everyone has been hyping up and ever since it installed I've been in Reboot Hell. The only time the cycle stopped is when I went into Verizon (of course). I went 3 different times today and they finally broke down to order a new one. They of course claimed they never heard of this problem, the same crap it sounds like most of you all were told as well. I can pull the battery and let it sit for 30-45 minutes and the minute I put the battery back in, same thing all day. I am self employed and my cell is my business line which now looks like it will be shut down for 2 days until I get my new phone. What a crock. None of my iPhone friends were ever able to make me look stupid for choosing the Dinc,,,,,,,until now.

I got lucky today and it happened in the Verizon store, like after 1.5 min of the tech (csr) looking at it, it went into reboot hell and his reply..."holy crap! you need a new phone" gave me the number to warr claims and Im have one overnighted tomorrow, should be here by friday. fingers are crossed.

I have had the same problem with continuous rebooting.
I just got the Froyo update this morning, but this problem happened to me once before the update as well.  My phone decides to turn off and restart, it will restart till it gets to about the white HTC screen, sometimes a little past that, then will turn off and restart and repeat the process until I take out he battery.  The first time this happened I left the battery out for about an hour and it started to work normally, till it did it again to me about 45 minutes ago.  Both times I have not been using the phone, but have had it in my pocket and I felt it vibrate telling me it was restarting.  I was thinking it might be the phone over heating because both times it has happened have been during 90+ degree weather, and I have a rubber case on the phone.  It is not encouraging to read all of these problems though.

when I talked to the tech at verizon, I told him I think the the phones battery is getting to hot and as a precaution the phone does a "power cycle" (thats what he called it) but because the battery is still too hot when it cycles.... it cycles again and again and again. He told me thats exactly what is happening.
I once tried holding the back of the phone (cover off) up to my AC vent in my car while it was on full blast and it actually seemed to help. not for long but for awhile

edit for spelling

Got my new(refurbished) Dinc today, Ive had it for about 4 hours and I have put it thru some paces. got the battery to heat up as much as my last phone did and so far so good, not one power cycle. time will tell I guess. I also haven't done the update yet. Im a lil skeptical to do this, maybe in a week or so after Im sure that the phone is operating properly.

I also just joined this forum because of frustration over the Incredible continually rebooting. I do feel like this has something to do with the battery overheating. Regardless, makes the phone somewhat unusable, it already has poor battery life, now it turns off for no reason?! Its shut while reading the news, playing HomeRun 3D, Navigation, this is a major problem and its obvious from reading other forums this is not a limited issue.

My daughter and I both have dincs. Mine is rooted (2.2) and hers is not.  We both have many apps, but she rarely updates / syncs hers.  This week, hers started rebooting constantly, and I noticed this happened as soon as the auto updates started, and it appears to be overloading on updates, causing the reboot.  Here's how I fixed it:
- activated airplane mode before auto updates started (this stops the auto update from running)
- activated wireless
- manually updated one app at a time until all necessary updates were completed

It hasn't rebooted since.  The key (at least in her case) is to update apps more frequently, rather than waiting until 20 or so apps need to be updated.  This appears to be an issue with Android, not specific to the dinc, and is likely to happen on other devices, too.  Google needs to find a way to limit updates / prevent updates from overloading the phone.
